No Christmas And New Year Celebrations For Somalia’s Christians

Somalia’s Federal government on Tuesday, December 22, banned the celebrations of Christmas and New Year in the capital Mogadishu. It says celebrating Christmas is against faith of Somali Muslims and won’t allow it happen in the country.

Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow announced the decision in a Press Conference held in Mogadishu along with the Vice Chairman of the Supreme Religious Council (SRC), Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan.

All events related to Christmas and New Year celebrations are contrary to Islamic culture, which could damage aqidah (faith) of the Muslim community. He added:

“All security forces are advised to halt or dissolve any gatherings. There should be no activity at all.”

Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan, the deputy chairman of the Supreme Religious Council of Somalia said that such events might motivate extremist group al-Shabaab to launch attacks in the capital.

“We [Islamic Scholars] are warning against the celebration of such events which are not relevant to the principles of our religion. Such events give also al-Shabaab to carry out attacks.”

As with gladness men of old

Matthew_17-20: And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you

As with gladness men of old

Did the guiding star behold,

As with joy they hailed its light,

Leading onward, beaming

bright;

So, most gracious Lord, may we

Evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped,

Saviour, to Thy lowly bed,

There to bend the knee before

Thee, whom heav’n and earth

adore;

So may we with willing feet

Ever seek the mercy-seat.

As they offered gifts most rare

At thy cradle rude and bare;

So may we with holy joy,

Pure, and free from sin’s alloy,

All our costliest treasures bring,

Christ. to Thee, our heav’nly

King.

Holy Jesus, every day

Keep us in the narrow way;

And, when earthly things are

past,

Bring our ransomed souls at last

Where they need no star to

guide,

Where no clouds Thy glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright

Need they no created light;

Thou its light, its joy, its crown,

Thou its sun which goes not

down;

There for ever may we sing

Hallelujahs to our King.

May God Bless Nigeria, America And Israel And Take Care Of Us; May God Make His Face Shine Upon Us, And Be Gracious To Us; May The Lord Lift Up His Countenance Upon Us, And Give Us Peace, In Jesus Christ Name, We Pray! Amen!

Christians, awake, salute the happy morn, Whereon the Saviour of mankind was born

John_1-12: Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

John_1-12: Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

Christians, awake, salute the happy morn,

Whereon the Saviour of mankind was born:

Rise to adore the mystery of love,

Which hosts of angels chanted from above;

With them the joyful tidings first begun

Of God incarnate and the Virgin’s Son.

Then to the watchful shepherds it was told

Who heard the angelic herald’s voice:

Behold, I bring good tidings of a Saviour’s birth

To you and all the nations upon earth:

This day hath God fulfilled His promised word,

This day is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord.

He spake; and straightway the celestial choir

In hymns of joy, unknown before, conspire,

Thy praises of redeeming love they sang,

And heaven’s whole orb with hallelujahs rang,

God’s highest glory was their anthem still,

Peace upon earth, and unto men goodwill.

To Bethlehem straight the enlightened shepherds ran,

To see the wonder God had wrought for man:

Then to their flocks, still praising God, return,

And their glad hearts, with holy rapture burn;

Amazed, the wondrous tidings they proclaim,

The first apostles of His infant

fame.

Oh may we keep and ponder in our mind

God’s wondrous love in saving lost mankind;

Trace we the Babe, who hath retrieved our loss,

From the poor manger to the bitter cross;

Tread in His steps, assisted by His grace,

Till man’s first heavenly state

again takes place.

Then may we hope, the angelic host among,

To sing. redeemed, a glad triumphal song:

He that was born upon this joyful day

Around us all His glory shall display

Saved by his love, incessant, we shall sing

Eternal praise to heaven’s Almighty King

May God Bless Nigeria, America And Israel And Take Care Of Us; May God Make His Face Shine Upon Us, And Be Gracious To Us; May The Lord Lift Up His Countenance Upon Us, And Give Us Peace, In Jesus Christ Name, We Pray! Amen!

May The Grace The Lord Jesus Christ, And The Love Of God, And The Fellowship Of The Holy Spirit Be With You All. Amen!

While Shepherds watched their flocks by night

Psalms_23-1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want

Psalms_23-1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want

While Shepherds watched their flocks by night,

All seated on the ground,

The angel of the Lord came down,

And glory shone around

Fear not! said he; for mighty

dread

Had seized their troubled mind;

Glad tidings of great joy I bring

To you and all mankind.

To you, in David’s town, this day

Is born, of  David’s line,

A Saviour, who is Christ the Lord

And this shall be the sign;

The heavenly Babe you there

shall find

To human view displayed,

All meanly wrapped

In swadding bands

And in a manger laid

Thus spake the seraph: and forth-with

Appeared a shining throng

Of angels praising God, who thus

Addressed their joyful song.

All glory be to God on high

And to the earth be peace;

Good will henceforth

From heaven to men

Begin and never cease!

Amen!

Merry Christmas!

Stained glass at St John the Baptist's Anglica...

Merry Christmas!

What a beautiful morning it is, this day when we celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. He is Emmanuel, God with us. He is our Jehovah Jireh, the God who is our provider. He is Jehovah Rapha, the God who is our healer. He is Jehovah Tsidkenu, the God of our righteousness. He is Jehovah Shalom, the God of peace in our homes and families.

On this Christmas morning as you unwrap the gifts and prepare for a day of fun and fellowship, I encourage you to take a few moments to thank God for the most amazing gift ever given. Thank Him for Jesus, and for all that Jesus is in your life. The names of God reflect His attributes, and since Jesus and the Father are one, we know when God came down to earth in a tiny body that was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid to sleep in a manger, He was and is God in the flesh, Emmanuel come to dwell with us in all of His fullness of character, and yet in all of His humanity as the one who saved us from our sins by His own blood. Praise Him, thank Him, and love on Him this morning. And then take that love and shed it abroad among your family members far and wide.

God Bless You this Christmas Day!

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Tips For Stress Free Happy Christmas Holidays

Holiday break

Tips For Stress Free Happy Christmas Holidays

During this holiday season, I hope that you started working smart by getting your gifts and shopping done early. Safety tips for you this Christmas holiday season:

1. Be proactive. If you haven’t gotten your shopping done, go NOW or later on tonight. Due to cold weather, most people try to be in by 9 or 10pm.

2. Make a list before you go. That way you don’t forget anything and have to drive back in crazy traffic.

3. Stock up on everything that you need so you can spend more time with family vs running around going crazy.

4. Start cooking early. People wait till the day of to start cooking. Prepare turkey and food Sunday or even Monday to be ahead of the game.

5. Manage your MONEY very well.  Make a budget for what you want to spend and don’t go over it. People go broke trying to please everyone else. You must be smart and SAVE. Always have a little left over for emergencies.

6. Take a time out for YOU. Listen to some Christian music. Relax with a glass of non alcoholic fruit wine and take a much-needed break before family comes over for dinner. That way you can enjoy their time and have energy as well.

7. Take a body stretch to relax your muscles. We tend to be so busy before and after Christmas that our bodies become weak, tired and stretches helps to keep our muscles on tract.

8. Make your phone calls early daytime on Christmas day. The early bird catches the worm. The more time you spend talking, the less time you have to spend with your family. Or just send a text those you don’t want to talk to.

9 If you want to go out with family or friends, plan it and make sure you organize whether for the movies, to a dinner or a party. BE PREPARED!

10. HAVE FUN, SMILE AND  TELL SOMEONE YOU LOVE THEM! AND REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR QUIET TIME WITH OUR HEAVENLY FATHER!

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

A Christmas Carol Christmas Hymn and Carol

The shepherds had an angel,
The wise men had a star;
But what have I, a little child,
To guide me home from far,
Where glad stars sing together,
And singing angels are?

The Wise Men left their country
To journey morn by morn,
With gold and frankincense and myrrh,
Because the Lord was born:
God sent a star to guide them,
And sent a dream to warn.

My life is like their journey,
Their star is like God’s book.
I must be like these good Wise Men,
With heaven-ward heart and look:
But shall I give no gifts to God?
What precious gifts they took

Lord, I will give my love to Thee,
Than gold much costlier.
Sweeter to Thee than frankincense,
More prized than the choicest myrrh,
Lord, make me dearer day by day,
Day by day holier; (Day by day holier.).

Nearer and dearer day by day,
Till I my voice unite
And sing “Glory, glory”
With angels clad in white;
All “Glory, glory” given to Thee,
All “Glory, glory” given to Thee.

Through all the heavenly height.
All “Glory, glory.”
Through all the heavenly height.
All “Glory, glory.” given to Thee. Amen!

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

A Day, a Day of Glory Christmas Hymn and Carol

A day, a day of glory!
A day that ends our woe!
A day that tells of triumph
Against our vanquished foe!
Yield, summer’s brightest sunrise,
To this December morn:
Life up your gates, ye Princes
And let the Child be born!

With Gloria in excelsis
Archangels tell their mirth:
With Kyrie eleyson
Men answer upon the earth:
And angels swell the triumph,
And mortals raise the horn,
Life up you gates, ye Princes,
And let the Child be born.

He comes, His throne the manger;
He comes, His shrine the stall;
The ox and ass His courtiers,
Who made and governs all:
The “House of Bread” His birth place,
The Prince of wine and corn:
Lift up your gates, ye Princes,
And let the Child be born.

Then bar the gates, that henceforth
None thus may passage win,
Because the Prince of Israel
Alone hath entered in:
The earth, the sky, the ocean
His glorious way adorn:
Lift up your gates, ye Princes,
And let the Child be born. Amen!

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

The First Noel Christmas Hymn and Carol

The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

And by the light of that same star
Three Wise men came from country far
To seek for a King was their intent
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest
O’er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both Pause and stay
Right o’er the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then entered in those Wise men three
Full reverently upon their knee
And offered there in His presence
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought
And with his blood mankind has bought.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel! Amen!

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps

A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps

Finding Something New in Something Old

Written by Jim Coleman

“A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” -Proverbs 16:9

Twenty years ago, my father needed a stint placed in one of the arteries of his
heart. My father was thin, and so am I. The fact that his heart needed attention
got my attention, so I decided immediately to get my heart, and general health,
in better shape. I started a jogging routine every other morning, early – about
6 a.m. for 30 minutes. My goal has been to get my heart rate to at least 120 beats
per minute and keep it there for the entire 30 minutes. I’ve always managed to run
about 2-12 to 3 miles within this time period.

One morning last December, I knew I had to get up especially early to have breakfast
with a friend. I didn’t want to awaken at 5:30 a.m., so I decided to jog the night
before. I was in for a treat. It was Christmas time, so when I began my run at 9:30
p.m., many of the homes I usually ran past in the rising morning sun had their Christmas
lights on!

It was beautiful! What a delightful surprise…house after house after house…lights,
lights, lights…in all different arrangements…some all white, others sparkling
with many colours. I saw inflated Santas, reindeer, elves. I saw twinkling palm trees,
Christmas trains, Christmas packages, and Nativity scenes. I had blast!

I found my thoughts and eyes dancing, and before I knew it, my run was over – the
time had gone by much faster than usual because my soul had been absorbed in the
splendour of all the magnificent Christmas lights.

I confess that I do have the habit of falling into routine. I think most people
would say that I’m fairly predicable…probably all of us are in some way or another.
However, there’s tremendous joy in discovering new pleasures – sometimes even in
old places.

Our glorious and gracious God created the Universe. We live within a single solar
system of that Universe, on a planet that fortunately has various levels of predictability
– “routine” aspects – that we all depend upon. For instance, the sun comes up every
morning and sets every evening. Yet, God in His wonderful plan for you and me provides
variations on this theme…through the seasons of the year…the rising and setting
of the moon…various weather conditions…etc. Variables within predictability
– God is good, God is wise, and YOU are made in His image! How exciting!

What routines have you established in your life? You depend on these routines; we
all do. We each have an individual way of approaching our activities, our relationships,
and our acquisition of knowledge. This is what makes you unique from all of the
other millions of persons in the world around you. But, what surprises, what new
discoveries await you by altering your routine just a bit – or even a lot? How
could you let the Lord direct your steps more today?

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You. Thank You for all that You’ve created that I can predictably depend
upon. Thank You, too, for all of the wonderful variables. You are glorious in all
ways. I praise You. Amen.

Have you ever thought about varying your routine to embrace new and exciting possibilities?
Are you willing even to think about it? To try it?

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Satan didn’t know it; the first Christmas was just around the corner

Stained glass at St John the Baptist's Anglica...

Satan didn’t know it; the first Christmas was just around the corner!

Determined to Make a Way

And the Lord said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this,
thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the
field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the
days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou
shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:14,15

In this passage, God is addressing satan directly. Satan must have thought, “Wait a minute. A woman doesn’t have a seed. The man carries
the seed. What does God mean by the ‘seed of woman’?”

God was giving a hint to satan that the seed of woman was going to
regain total authority and was going to bruise his rock-hard head. It
was safe to give the devil hints because he doesn’t have revelation
(and he definitely doesn’t know all things, as his Creator does).

All satan knew was that something or someone would be coming on a
mission from God to do battle with him and that he had better get ready
for it! God knew that to have authority in this planet at all, His
emissary would have to possess the full image of expression available
on this planet. That meant He would have to be born here in a human
body. God was unwilling to allow the man He had made to fall. God was
determined to make a way. Satan didn’t know it, but the first Christmas
was just around the corner!

Prayer for Today

Father,
I magnify Your name for making a way, for regaining authority. Again
and again, You make a way for me when there seems to be no way, and I
praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
