And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. – Luke 18:13

Genesis 19:15-17 (KJV)

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

Since the fall of man at the Garden of Eden, the only factor that has sustained man in this world is God’s mercy. When a man receives God’s mercy, it would appear as if he is a genius or his righteousness has bestowed upon him some divine benevolence. This is not true. The Bible says in Lamentations 3:22:

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”

In our memory verse for today, we read of the mercy which brought justification to the repentant publican. Because he begged for it, his day of mercy came unhindered. Jesus said in Luke 18:14:

“I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

One striking revelation in Christ’s assertion is that we can only obtain mercy when we acknowledge our sins and repent of them as the publican did. According to Luke 18:14, what prevents some people from receiving mercy from God is failure to admit that they are sinners and that they need to turn from their wicked ways. It is amazing that some children of God are in the habit of living in the world of relativism where what is right or wrong depends on the justification they have for it. This is not the gospel. When they are caught stealing, they would rationalise it by putting the guilt on the fact that they are jobless. Some ladies claim that they took to prostitution because they were jobless and needed to take care of their aged parents!

14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;

15 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.” – Ezekiel 33:14-15

It takes humility to acknowledge it if we do something wrong against God or against our neighbour. The Bible says in Proverbs 28:13:

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

Your appointed day of mercy comes when you humbly ask for it from the One who is rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4). I appeal to someone using this devotional; if you have not repented of your sins through Jesus Christ, being forth the day of God’s mercy into your life by calling on the God of mercy today for forgiveness. Or, if you are a child of God, but seem to be void of His mercy, call on Him like a child will cry to his loving father for mercy. Today is the day of the Lord’s mercy for you and your loved ones in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point.

Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me and give me testimonies.

Thank You Jesus.

O Lord, Turn Not Thy Face Away

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

O Lord, Turn Not Thy Face Away
From Them That Lowly Lie;
Lamenting Sore Their Sinful Life
With Tears And Bitter Cry.

Thy Mercy’s Gates Are Open
Wide
To Them That Mourn Their Sin:
O Shut Them Not Against Us,
Lord!
But Let Us Enter In.

We Need Not To Confess Our Fault,
For Surely Thou Canst Tell;
What We Have Done And What We Are
Thou Knowest Very Well.

Wherefore To Beg And To Entreat,
With Tears We Come To Thee,
As Children That Have Done Amiss
Fall At Their Fathers Knee.

And Need We Then, O Lord, Repeat
The Blessing Which We Crave,
When Thou Dost Know Before We Speak
The Thing That We Would Have?

Mercy, O Lord! Mercy We Ask,
This Is The Total Sum:
For Mercy, Lord, Is All Our Prayer,
O Let Thy Mercy Come! Amen.

Psalms_107-1: O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever

Psalms_107-1: O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever

From Every Stormy Wind That Blows
From Every Swelling Tide Of Woes,
There Is A Calm, A Sure Retreat;
‘Tis Found Beneath The Mercy – Seat.

There Is A Place Where Jesus Sheds
The Oil Of Gladness On Our Heads –
A Place Than All Beside More Sweet;
It Is The Blood Stained Mercy – Seat.

There Is A Scene Where Spirits Blend,
And Friend Holds Fellowship With Friend;
Though Sundered Far, By Faith We Meet
Around One Common Mercy Seat.

There, There On Eagle Wing We
Soar,
And Time And Sense Seem All No More;
And Heaven Comes Down Our Souls To Greet,
And Glory Crowns The Mercy –
Seat.
Amen!

When At Thy Footstool. Lord. I Bend.

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

When At Thy Footstool, Lord, I Bend
And Plead With Thee For Mercy There,
Think Of The Sinner’s Dying Friend,
And For His Sake Receive My Prayer.

Oh Think Not Of My Shame And Guilt,
My Thousand Stains Of Deepest Dye;
Think Of The Blood Which Jesus Split,
My Pardon And My Life To Buy.

Think, Lord, How I Am Still Thine Own,
The Trembling Creature Of Thy Hand;
Think How My Heart To Sin Is Prone,
And What Temptations Round Me Stand.

Oh Think Upon Thy Holy Word
And Every Plighted Promise There;
How Prayer Should Evermore Be Heard,
And How Thy Glory Is To Spare.

Oh Think Not Of My Doubts And Fears,
My Strivings With Thy Grace Divine,
Think Upon Jesus’ Woes And Tears,
And Let His Merits Stand For Mine.

Thine Eye, Thine Ear, They Are Not Dull;
Thine Arm Can Never Shortened
Be;
Behold Me Here; My Heart Is Full,
Behold, And Spare, And Succour
Me.
Amen!

What Can Wash Away My Stain?

Psalms_55-22: Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalms_55-22: Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

What Can Wash Away My Stain?
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus
What Can Make Me Whole Again?
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.

Oh! Precious Is The Flow
That Makes Me White As Snow!
No Other Fount I Know,
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.

For My Cleansing This I See
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus
For My Pardon This My Plea
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.

Nothing Can For Sin Atone,
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus:
Naught Of Good That I Have Done,
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.

This Is All My Hope And Peace.
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus:
His Is All My Righteousness
Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus.

Psalm 123. A Prayer For Mercy. A Prayer For Relief From Contempt

A Song of degrees

1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. 3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. 4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 118. A Prayer Of Thanksgiving For victory. Praise To God For His Everlasting Mercy

1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. 3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. 4 Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever. 5 I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. 6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? 7 The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. 8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. 9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. 10 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. 11 They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. 12 They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. 13 Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. 14 The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. 15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. 17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. 18 The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD: 20 This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter. 21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 23 This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. 24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. 27 God is the LORD, which hath showed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. 28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. 29 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

CHETH

57 Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words.

58 I entreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. 60 I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

61 The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law.

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

64 The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Psalm 86. A Prayer For Help. A Prayer For Mercy, With Meditation On The Excellencies Of The LORD

A Prayer of David

1 Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy. 2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. 3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. 4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. 6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. 9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. 10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. 12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. 13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. 14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. 15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. 16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17 Show me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

May GOD bless Nigeria, America and Israel and take care of us; May GOD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us (Matthew 6:12)

English: Baptism of Jesus Christ

Forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us (Matthew 6:12)

Payment in full

God is merciful

Peter asked Jesus how many times he had to forgive someone. Peter thought that forgiving seven times was pretty good. “No!” Jesus answered, “seventy times seven!” Then Jesus gave an illustration showing how God views our responsibility to forgive.

A king became aware that one of his servants owed him a significant amount, so he ordered the servant brought before him and demanded the servant pay every penny. The servant could not pay so the king ordered the man and his family sold into slavery to pay the debt. The servant fell before the king and pleaded for mercy. The king felt pity and forgave him the tremendous debt.

The servant found a fellow servant who owed him and demanded payment. The friend begged for mercy, but the servant would not forgive him and had him thrown into prison.

When the king heard about it, he was angry! He called in the servant and demanded to know why he had acted so unforgiving toward his friend when he had been forgiven so much. Then the king commanded the servant be thrown into prison until he had paid every penny.

God gave His only Son to die in our place. That is mercy beyond comprehension. How, then, can we ever refuse to give mercy to others when we have received so much mercy ourselves. To the degree that we show mercy to the poor, the wretched, and the guilty, we are like God.

Your View of God Really Matters …

Since God richly lavishes His mercy on us, we must show mercy to one another. And that means letting go of all those old hurts caused by others.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me.

—Psalm 139:23-24

READ: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Is it possible to be too helpful? Can our helpfulness actually make life more difficult for others? Yes, if we’re being bothersome, intrusive, smothering, manipulative, or controlling. If the help we are giving is driven only by our own anxiety, we may be just trying to help ourselves.

How then can we know if our heart and acts of service are truly symbolic of God’s unconditional love? How can we love from pure motives? (Prov. 16:2; 21:2; 1 Cor. 4:5).

In prayer we can ask God to show us any way we are hurting or hindering others (Ps. 139:23-24). We can ask God to help us show love that “suffers long and is kind; . . . is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil” (1 Cor. 13:4-5).

Our efforts to help others, especially those we love the most, will never be completely free from anxiety. But we can, by God’s grace, begin to love freely with no strings attached, as God Himself loves. The test, of course, and the measure of our progress, is the way we react when our “helpfulness” is unrecognized or goes unrewarded (see Luke 14:12-14).

Lord, help us to love with pure motives and for the good of others. Help us to love unconditionally, expecting nothing in return. —David Roper

Please help me, Lord, in all I do
To act and think with motives true;
And by Your love reveal to me
Those sins that only You can see. —D. De Haan

In our desire to help, let’s love with pure motives.

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

God is merciful

“He was lost, but now he is found” (Luke 15:24)

John Newton‘s mother was a devoted Christian, but she died when he was a child. As a young man, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, an English sea captain. He joined the British Royal Navy but was discharged for unruly behaviour. He moved to the western coast of Africa and worked for a slave trader. He eventually became captain of a slave ship, treating the slaves despicably. What a loathsome man he had become!

On one voyage, a fierce storm severely battered his ship. Fearing for his life, he surrendered himself to God. Over the next few years as he became convinced that slavery was abhorrent, he gave up slave trading and crusaded against slavery. His life changed so much that he even studied to become a minister. Soon, he became known as the “old converted sea captain” all because he had personally encountered the living God. Eventually, he wrote one of the most famous hymns in the English language, Amazing Grace. In it, he describes his own transformation:

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.”

Who else but almighty God could change a calloused slave trader into a compassionate minister and anti-slavery crusader? Have you experienced this change? If He could change John Newton, He can certainly change you.

The more I get to know Him, the more peace, joy, love, and excitement I experience. It has been my greatest adventure. He has proven to be my best friend, someone I can trust in every situation.

Your View of God Really Matters …

If you have experienced the marvellous revelation of God’s amazing grace, think of one significant way it has affected your life. Then ask God to show you one person who needs to hear your story.

Help for the Helpless

“Jesus asked him, ‘Do you want to be well?” -John 5:6

Jesus was walking through Jerusalem. Think New York City. That’s what Jerusalem
was – the metropolitan gathering spot. It was crowed with all kinds of people. Eventually,
Jesus passed by a pool called Bethesda.” This pool was believed to have magical
powers. Many believed that when the waters were stirred, the first one to enter
the pool would be healed. So, hundreds of sick people were lying by this pool,
watching and waiting for their opportunity to be healed.

One man had been waiting 38 years for his miracle! He was a paralytic and he had
lain there for nearly four decades! Every day he watched. Every day he waited.
Every day he hoped for his chance! Would today be the day…finally?

Jesus sees this man and asks him, “Do you want to be well?”

What a question! Why else would he wait there that long? But in truth, this is one
of the most salient questions we can be asked, “Do you want to be well?”

Why wouldn’t this man have wanted to be well? Well, it would mean that his way of
life would be forever changed. He would have to learn how to fend for himself instead
of living off handouts. He would have to risk standing up, falling (a likelihood
since he hadn’t stood on his legs for so long), and looking like a fool.
It meant he would have to change. He would have to let go of his old life and learn
a new one.

But he did say yes. And so Jesus gave His prescription for getting well. He said,
“Get up!” And the man GOT UP! He picked up his mat – the same mat that had carried
him – and walked! He walked into his new life! He walked into his miracle!

Get up. Walk into your miracle today!

PRAYER:

Lord, I feel helpless. But You are help for the helpless. You are hope for the hopeless!
I want to be made whole! I want to have the strength to get up! I reach out my hand to
You, today, and grab onto You. Pick me up, Lord, in Jesus Christ Name I pray! Amen.

What is holding you back from getting up and saying “yes” to your miracle today?

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By His mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies are new every morning…..I will hope in Him

God Never Gives Up On Us

One day in 1988, Samuel and Danielle sent their young son, Armand, off to school. Hours later, a powerful earthquake rocked the area. People were trapped under flattened buildings. Kissing his wife, Samuel grabbed his coat and headed for the school. What he saw brought tears to his eyes. Armand’s school was a pile of debris.

Where Armand’s classroom used to be, Samuel began pulling a broken beam off the pile. He picked up a rock and put it to the side, then another, and another. One of the parents looking on asked, “What are you doing?”

“Digging for my son,” Samuel answered.

The man exclaimed, “You’re just going to make things worse! This building is unstable,” and tried to pull Samuel away. Others, including a firefighter, tried to get him to stop, but he would not.

All through the night and into the next day, Samuel continued digging. Finally, a faint “Help!” came from under the rubble. Then the faint voice came again. “Papa?”

He began to dig furiously. Finally, he could see his son. “Come out!” he said with relief.

“I told the other kids not to worry,” Armand said. “I told them that if you were alive, you’d save me and when you saved me, they’d be saved. You promised you’d always be there for me.” Fourteen children were saved that day because one father was faithful.

How much more faithful is our heavenly Father! Whether trapped by fallen debris in an earthquake or trapped by life’s hardships, we are never cut off from His love and faithfulness.

Your View of God Really Matters …

Do you ever wonder if God will be faithful to you, in your circumstances? Meditate on Lamentations 3:22-24. Although this was written to the Israelites after the sacking of Jerusalem, it also speaks to us today of the hope that comes from focusing on who God is.

Because God is faithful, I will trust Him to always keep His promises!

Caricature God

READ: Exodus 34:1-9

The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty. —Numbers 14:18

Caricature artists set up their easels in public places and draw pictures of people who are willing to pay a modest price for a humorous image of themselves. Their drawings amuse us because they exaggerate one or more of our physical features in a way that is recognizable but funny.

Caricatures of God, on the other hand, are not funny. Exaggerating one of His attributes presents a distorted view that people easily dismiss. Like a caricature, a distorted view of God is not taken seriously. Those who see God portrayed only as an angry and demanding judge are easily lured away by someone who emphasizes mercy. Those who see God as a kindhearted grandfather will reject that image when they need justice. Those who see God as an intellectual idea rather than a living, loving being eventually find other ideas more appealing. Those who see God as a best friend often leave Him behind when they find human friends who are more to their liking.

God declares Himself to be merciful and gracious, but also just in punishing the guilty (Ex. 34:6-7).

As we put our faith into action, we need to avoid portraying God as having only our favorite attributes. We must worship all of God, not just what we like. —Julie Ackerman Link

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Oh, Thou blessed Trinity:
One in essence, yet three persons—
Thou, our God, we worship Thee. —D. De Haan

All-powerful, merciful, wise, and just is the God in whom we trust.

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him

The Lord our God is merciful and     forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.
Daniel 9:9

You Are Forgiven

Are you haunted by past sins? Perhaps Satan, the accuser, keeps reminding     you of mistakes you’ve made in your life. If so, rebuke him right now with     the truth that you, as a believer in Jesus Christ, have been forgiven.

Don’t listen to the lies of the enemy. Instead, turn to the Word of God and     read about Paul, who calls himself the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15).     In the book of Acts, a man named Saul was persecuting the church. He gave     his consent to the martyrdom of Stephen and travelled around hunting     believers of the Way and punishing them. After Saul met Jesus, however, he     gave his life completely over to the Lord and became Paul, the apostle who     wrote much of the New Testament.

Paul could have wallowed in despair over his past sins, but he didn’t-he     knew the only way to be effective in ministry was to accept God’s Word as     truth and stand on His promise.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my     people, who are called by my name, will…turn from their wicked ways, then     will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin.” You are     forgiven.

Put the past behind you and walk in that truth today.

    God’s Rich Mercy

“Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.”

    (Ephesians 2:4-5)

Scott was a teenage gang member who lived in an eastern U.S. city. At 14 years old, he killed another gang member in a street fight. He was convicted and sent to a juvenile prison. While there, he attended a Bible study. Scott soon recognized that God’s mercy extended even to him. Though feeling terribly unworthy, he received Christ as His Savior.

While in the juvenile prison, he met regularly for Bible study. Still in his teens when he was released, he did not want to go back to the inner city environment. Extending God’s mercy, the Bible study leader took Scott into the home he and his wife had established as a discipling center for young men who showed genuine commitment to Jesus Christ while in prison.

Scott spent two years there. He made such progress – completing his high school degree and growing as a Christian young man – that he was accepted as a student at a well-known Christian college. As a student, he began sharing the love and mercy of God with other young men incarcerated in the state juvenile detention centers. Now, he wants to minister to inner city youth who are without hope.

God’s mercy does not end with the forgiveness of our sins. He has a plan for our lives that will bring us to maturity in His grace. Have you experienced God’s rich mercy? He gives it in unlimited abundance.

Your View of God Really Matters …

Whether you are a “good” person or guilty of horrible sins, you are still in desperate need of God’s daily mercy. Recount areas in your life where you need God’s mercy, then thank Him by faith for it. Now let God pass on His rich mercy to others through you.

    Psalm 69:16; Psalm 119:132; Matthew 18:23-35

    Because God is merciful,

He forgives me of my sins when I sincerely confess them.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. —Hebrews 4:16

During World War II, the British Isles represented the last line of resistance against the sweep of Nazi oppression in Europe. Under relentless attack and in danger of collapse, however, Britain lacked the resources to see the conflict through to victory. For that reason, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill went on BBC radio and appealed to the world: “Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.” He knew that without help from the outside, they could not endure the assault they were facing.

Life is like that. Often, we are inadequate for the troubles life throws at us, and we need help from outside of ourselves. As members of the body of Christ, that help can come at times from our Christian brothers and sisters (Rom. 12:10-13)—and that is a wonderful thing. Ultimately, however, we seek help from our heavenly Father. The good and great news is that our God has invited us to come confidently before Him: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16).

At such times, our greatest resource is prayer—for it brings us into the very presence of God. There we find, in His mercy and grace, the help we need. —Bill Crowder

God has given you His promise,
That He hears and answers prayer,
    He will heed your supplication
If you cast on Him your care. —Bernstecher

Don’t let prayer be your last recourse in time of need; make it your first.

May Our God The Almighty prosper Nigeria and Israel and defend us from all our enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

    Pray for Guidance

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.

    2 Corinthians 1:3

In order for cultures to become violent, barbaric, and uncaring, they have to be trained in violence, barbarism and selfishness.

In Amos 1:11 God points out that when we “pursue with the sword” we “stifle all compassion.” He was not pleased and “his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked.” He was speaking of the city of Tyre, but He could have been speaking of any of today’s youth. In our movies, video games, television and music, the culture of fury is glorified. Violence is presented as the one and only solution to problems. Pursuing our neighbors with “swords” is glorified over compassion, forgiveness and understanding. Is it any wonder that our youth load guns instead of playing with one another?

Our nation was founded on positive values-life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is important to return to these God-given pursuits, and we need to ask for His help.

As a society, we need to demonstrate love, not violence. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in choosing forms of entertainment that are pleasing to God.

    Invoking God’s mercy.

“Save me from the hand of my brother Esau for I am afraid he will come and attack me and also the mothers with their children.” (Genesis 32:11)

Jacob was hunted by his past acts of fraud and deceit against his brother Esau, at the time he was about to meet him on his return back to his country. He was so afraid that Esau would take revenge for his past evil deeds by killing him. He however prayed to God to save him from his brother and God had mercy on him, God caused him to find favour before his brother and both were reconciled miraculously.

We sometime come to a point in our lives that we find ourselves in some sort of a quagmire and are unable to go forward. At such times, we need to recall our past and wattle any issues that we may come up with before God by invoking God’s mercy.

Jacob may not have been able to go beyond that point in his life but for divine intervention and mercy.

There is need also for anyone who finds himself in such situation to be very open and sincere before and with God. He must be willing to lay bare everything before God without holding anything back just as Jacob did when he told God that he was ‘a cheat and a fraud’ (which is the meaning of his name) when asked who he was (Genesis 32:27-28).

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrew 4:16)

May Our God The Almighty prosper Nigeria and Israel and defend us from all our enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!
