O Lord, Turn Not Thy Face Away

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

O Lord, Turn Not Thy Face Away
From Them That Lowly Lie;
Lamenting Sore Their Sinful Life
With Tears And Bitter Cry.

Thy Mercy’s Gates Are Open
Wide
To Them That Mourn Their Sin:
O Shut Them Not Against Us,
Lord!
But Let Us Enter In.

We Need Not To Confess Our Fault,
For Surely Thou Canst Tell;
What We Have Done And What We Are
Thou Knowest Very Well.

Wherefore To Beg And To Entreat,
With Tears We Come To Thee,
As Children That Have Done Amiss
Fall At Their Fathers Knee.

And Need We Then, O Lord, Repeat
The Blessing Which We Crave,
When Thou Dost Know Before We Speak
The Thing That We Would Have?

Mercy, O Lord! Mercy We Ask,
This Is The Total Sum:
For Mercy, Lord, Is All Our Prayer,
O Let Thy Mercy Come! Amen.

Psalms_103-8: The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy

When At Thy Footstool. Lord. I Bend.

Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Psalms_100-5: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

When At Thy Footstool, Lord, I Bend
And Plead With Thee For Mercy There,
Think Of The Sinner’s Dying Friend,
And For His Sake Receive My Prayer.

Oh Think Not Of My Shame And Guilt,
My Thousand Stains Of Deepest Dye;
Think Of The Blood Which Jesus Split,
My Pardon And My Life To Buy.

Think, Lord, How I Am Still Thine Own,
The Trembling Creature Of Thy Hand;
Think How My Heart To Sin Is Prone,
And What Temptations Round Me Stand.

Oh Think Upon Thy Holy Word
And Every Plighted Promise There;
How Prayer Should Evermore Be Heard,
And How Thy Glory Is To Spare.

Oh Think Not Of My Doubts And Fears,
My Strivings With Thy Grace Divine,
Think Upon Jesus’ Woes And Tears,
And Let His Merits Stand For Mine.

Thine Eye, Thine Ear, They Are Not Dull;
Thine Arm Can Never Shortened
Be;
Behold Me Here; My Heart Is Full,
Behold, And Spare, And Succour
Me.
Amen!

When all thy mercies, o my God. Hymn

Psalms_89-1-2: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations
Psalms_89-1-2: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations

When all Thy mercies, O my

God,

My rising soul surveys,

Transported with th view, I’m lost

In wonder, love and praise.

Unnumbered comforts on my

soul

Thy tender care bestowed,

Before my infant heart conceived,

From whom these comforts flowed.

When in the slippery paths of youth

With heedless steps I ran,

Thine arm, unseen, conveyed me safe,

And led me up to man.

Through hidden dangers, toils, and deaths,

It gently cleared my way,

And through the pleasing snares of vice,

More to be feared than they.

When worn with sickness oft hast Thou

With health renewed my face,

And when in sins and sorrows sunk,

Revived my soul with grace.

Ten thousand thousand

precious gifts

Mv daily thanks employ;

Nor is the least a cheerful heart

That tastes those gifts with joy.

Through every period of my life

Thy goodness I’ll pursue;

And after death, in distant worlds,

The glorious theme renew.

Through all eternity to Thee

A joyful song I’ll raise;

If But oh, eternity’s too short

To utter all Thy praise.

Let Me Come Closer To Thee, Jesus. Hymn

1-Samuel_2-2: There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God
1-Samuel_2-2: There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God

Let me come closer to Thee,

Jesus,

Oh, closer day by day!

Let me lean harder on Thee,

Jesus

Yea, harder all the way.

Let me show forth thy beauty,

Jesus,

Like sunshine on the hills,

Oh let my lips pour forth Thy

sweetness

In joyous, sparkling rills!

Yes, like a fountain precious

Jesus,

Make me New and let me be;

Keep me and use me daily,

Jesus,

For Thee, and only Thee.

In all my heart and will, 0

Jesus,

Be altogether, King!

Make me a loyal subject, Jesus

To Thee in everything.

Thirsting and hungering for

Thee, Jesus

With blessed hunger here,

Longing for home on Zion’s

mountain

No thirst, on hunger there.

Hymn 32. Praise to the Holiest in the height

Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Praise to the Holiest in the height,

And in the depth be praise:

In all His words most wonderful

Most sure in all His ways

O loving wisdom of our God!

When all was sin and shame

A second Adam to the fight,

And to the rescue came,

O wisest love! that flesh and blood

Which did in Adam fail

Should strive afresh against the foe

Should strive and should prevail.

And that a higher gift than grace

Should flesh and blood refine,

God’s presence, and His very self

And essence all- divine.

O generous love! that He, who smote

In man for man the foe,

The double agony in man

For man should undergo.

And in the garden secretly,

And on the cross on high,

Should teach his brethren, and inspire

To suffer and to die.

Praise to the Holiest in the height,

And in the depth be praise:

In all His words most wonderful,

Most sure in all His ways.

Wonders Of God’s Presence By Pastor E A Adeboye

Psalms_16-11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Psalms_16-11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Memorise:

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalm 16:11

Read: Isaiah 40:28-31

28  Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Message

In Psalm 16:11, the Psalmist reveals that it’s in the presence of the Lord we can find fullness of joy. It is wise therefore to be in God’s presence. We are guaranteed joy and everlasting satisfaction in His presence. Sin drives a man from the presence of the Lord. It was after the Fall that Adam and his wife ran from the presence of the Lord (Genesis 3:8). Prophet Jonah, in disobedience, also ran from the presence of the Lord and ended up in the belly of the fish (Jonah 1:3, 15 & 17). When a man runs from God’s presence, he is half-dead. Only the mercy of God can make him survive it.

Isaiah_40-31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint
Isaiah_40-31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint

Some of the wonders of God’s presence are found in our scripture reading today. When you make the presence of the Lord your place of abode, you will never be tired because His attributes rub off on you (Isaiah 40:28-29). God is never tired, and He is so generous that He shares His strength with those who choose to come into his presence. Prophet Elijah and Elisha after him knew this secret and experienced the wonders of His presence. While Elijah was in God’s presence, he enjoyed divinely prepared meals. He became so strong and swift that he did not only overpower 450 prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, he also outran the chariot of King Ahab (1 Kings 18).

Another wonder of God’s presence is that it gives divine boldness to those who abide in it. Hear what Elijah said in 1 Kings 18:15 in response to concerns raised by Obadiah concerning the fact that Elijah might get killed if King Ahab saw him:

“…As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.”

Another wonder of the presence of God is that the more you stay in God’s presence, the more you look and behave like him. The early disciples were with Jesus and within the space of three and half years, the world knew they had been with Him (Acts 4:13).

Children of God must take time out of their busy schedules to be in God’s presence. This was the habit of our Lord Jesus Christ. He did not compromise the presence of His Father for other activities. The Bible records that He constantly withdrew to the mountain side to commune with the Father (Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12). Become like Him today.

Action Point:

Draw out an action plan that will enable you to constantly have effective fellowship with the Holy Trinity.

May God Bless Nigeria, America And Israel And Take Care Of Us; May God Make His Face Shine Upon Us, And Be Gracious To Us; May The Lord Lift Up His Countenance Upon Us, And Give Us Peace, In Jesus Christ Name, We Pray! Amen!

Faithful Christian Workers. Sermon And Prayer Point By Pastor E A Adeboye

Pastor E A Adeboye, Daddy G O
Pastor E A Adeboye, Daddy G O

Memorise:

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:2

Read: Luke 12:37-38

37  Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

38  And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

Message

A Christian worker is a born-again child of God; a steward who has been entrusted with the careful use, control and management of kingdom resources and possessions. The teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ on stewardship emphasised two things that are important: responsibility and accountability. Jesus speaking on responsibility in Luke 12:48 said:

“But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”

Revelation_4-11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created
Revelation_4-11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created

According to Revelation 4:11, God created man and everything else for His pleasure. Individuals are therefore accountable for their God-given physical and spiritual endowments. Christians are also responsible for whatever is put in their care. The gifts and talents in our lives are to be used profitably for the expansion of the kingdom of God. The Bible further states in Romans 14:12 that every one of us shall give account of himself to God, and in Romans 2:6 that God will render to every man according to his deeds. Consequently, every Christian worker is accountable to God. The Bible also admonishes us not to neglect our gifts but to develop and polish them.

“Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”

1 Timothy 4:14

Christians are to be wise stewards of their God-given gifts, talents and abilities. They are to serve with humility, total submission to authority and in the fear of God. They are to serve with gratitude to God and for the benefit of others. Christian workers in whatever department should not view the work of God as an opportunity to make money. The work should not be done with eye-service but as unto the Lord, who will faithfully reward those who diligently serve Him. Finally, whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might (Ecclesiastes 9:10), and don’t be slothful in God’s business, but rather be fervent in your physical and spiritual service to God (Romans 12:11). I pray that as you work fervently for God this year, He will reward you accordingly in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point:

Father, please let the cup of my physical and spiritual blessings overflow this year in the Name of Jesus.

Amen!

Benefits Of Patience. Sermon And Prayer Point By Pastor E A Adeboye

Hebrews_11-6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
Hebrews_11-6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

Memorise:

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Romans 4:20

Read: Genesis 17:1-5

1  And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2  And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3  And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4  As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5  Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

Message

There are lots of benefits awaiting those who are patient in receiving God’s promises.

“For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”

Isaiah 64:4

It is always to our advantage when we wait on His word. It is the only guarantee we have for securing victory, success and the breakthroughs we crave for. For so long, God wanted to enter into a covenant with Abraham, but Abraham was just not ready. It was only after 24 years of self-dependence and self-government by Abraham that God felt He was ready. There are many generational blessings that God wants to give to you. There are also many exploits that He wants you to accomplish, but as long as you are not ready to do it according to His time-table, there will always be unnecessary delays. Any time God calls for a partnership with us, He is simply looking for an opportunity to bless us. He wants to provide divine direction and turn our nothingness to something. He wants to make a message out of our mess, and He wants to bring a testimony out of our tests.

1-Corinthians_2-9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him
1-Corinthians_2-9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him

When the Lord called His disciples apart in Mark 6:30-31, it was for the purpose of waiting on Him. If you are the type always running up and down, you cannot get the best from God. Those who wait on Him in patience are usually rewarded. It is very important to wait on Him for direction in your projects, relationships and programmes. If you learn to be patient, situations and circumstances will always be within your control. In the place of waiting, there is no room for unbelief and doubt. Abraham did not stagger at God’s promises, and his faith was rewarded (Romans 4:20). Peter toiled all night without catching anything (Luke 5:3-7). The Lord decided to choose his boat for a kingdom assignment and he did not refuse or complain; he just waited for his miracle. At the end, he rejoiced. Have you been waiting on God’s promises for so long? Keep your cool. Don’t be discouraged.

If you become impatient, you may lose the benefits meant to transform your life. At the end of Peter’s waiting, his story changed. The Peter who caught nothing became the Peter who needed the assistance of others to handle the blessings of God in his life. I say to a user of this devotional, in that Name that is above every other name, your joy, blessing, breakthrough, healing and anointing will overflow to generations yet unborn. Waiting upon the promises of God requires faith. When you wait patiently on God for anything, you save time, and in the end, nothing will be lost.

Prayer Point:

Dear Lord, please continue to be my focus as I wait on You.

Amen!

Day Of Favour. Sermon And Prayer Point By Pastor E A Adeboye

Psalms_5-12-1: For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
Psalms_5-12-1: For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Memorise:

For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 5:12

Read: Esther 5:1-3

1  Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

2  And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

3  Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

Psalms_30-5: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Psalms_30-5: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Message

Queen Esther found favour in the sight of the king and she was promised blessings up to one half of the kingdom. There are lots of lessons in the passage before us. First of these is that the king’s eyes located Esther. 1 Samuel 16:11-13 tells us how favour located David while he was watching over the flock of his father. Mark 5:1-15 also narrates how favour located the mad man of Gadara in the graveyard. A sister who had been looking for a husband once attended a funeral service. In attendance also was a brother who had also been looking for a wife. On seeing her, he concluded that if the sister could look that beautiful in mourning clothes, she would look awesome when in high spirits. There and then, he concluded to go after her hand in marriage. This shows that favour can locate you anywhere you are.

The king did not just see Esther, he focused on her. When your day of favour comes, God will not just glance at you, He will focus on you. The day favour beamed on the sick man at Bethesda, Jesus located him for healing (John 5:5-6). There was a man who had two doctorate degrees but could not get a job. When this man was brought to us he was unkempt as if he never attended school.

We introduced him to Jesus and prayed with him. Before he got to his hometown that day, favour located him and people in his local government started looking for him with several job opportunities. Another story of favour is that of a lady whose mother would not allow her to get married for fear of being neglected by her after marriage. After some words of prayer for this sister, there was deliverance. This sister had been in church for a long time, but when God’s favour located her, she suddenly got a suitor within one week. My prayer for you is that whatever is blocking the view of those who should favour you shall be removed this season in Jesus’ Name.

The only obstacle to divine favour is unrighteousness. The Bible in Psalm 5:12 says:

“For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”

I therefore appeal to you to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind, and begin to live a life acceptable to God for divine favour.

Prayer Point:

Father, please let Your favour locate me for breakthrough today in Jesus’ Name.

Memorise:

Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

Zechariah 10:1

Read: 1 Kings 18:41-45

41  And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42  So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43  And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44  And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

45  And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

Message

There is a point in the life of every child of God when the appointed time for the fulfilment of a divine promise arrives. We know as a matter of fact that the word of God is yea and amen. We believe that His word is settled in heaven. We are also certain that heaven and earth may pass away but a dot in His word will not pass away unfulfilled. Nevertheless, as the time of the fulfilment of a major prophecy approaches, we may become overwhelmed with suspense and anxiety. This seems to be the case with Elijah in today’s reading. Three years before, the prophet had authoritatively declared to King Ahab that there would neither be dew nor rain in the land of Israel, except by his word (1 Kings 17:1). Within the three years following that event, God had answered his various requests, and the victory over the prophets of Baal was still fresh in his mind. Yet he knew that if God should send rain at his word, it would be a great accomplishment and the crowning point of his life. It was with this feeling that Elijah approached Mt. Carmel for the manifestation of the power of God on the back of God’s promise.

There are important lessons to be learnt from the way the prophet handled the situation. First, he exhibited his faith in the Word of God by confidently giving Ahab the assurance to go and start celebrating the coming of the rain. Next is the prophet’s attitude to prayer. He decided to put his faith into action through fervent prayers. He was not tempted to leave God to fulfil His own promise. Thirdly, the sound of abundant rain must have been a sign from God to the prophet, because others could not hear it. He received it with joy as a token that his prayer would be answered, and he announced it to the world by faith. The fourth lesson is that, even though his servant told him “there is nothing” six times, he did not allow discouragement to set in. He knew what God told him, and he held on to it tenaciously. Finally, Prophet Elijah persevered in the place of prayer. He said to his servant “go again”, seven times. He continued to watch and pray and finally, there was a great rain. As you tarry in the place of prayer this year, the Lord will answer all your requests by fire in Jesus’ Name. Always remember this:

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Habakkuk 2:3
