JESUS CAME FOR A PURPOSE

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (KJV)

Everything that God does, has a specific purpose, and everyone born of a woman came for a specific assignment. The question is, do you know why you are here? Your birth is not accidental or coincidental. God allowed you to be born at this time for a reason.

Our text today makes this clear. Even the birth of Jesus was for a purpose. When man fell in the Garden of Eden and sin came into the world, God realised that the blood of animals would not sufficiently atone for the sin of mankind. Sin is not a result of something you did or did not do; everyone born of a woman came with sin. It became the natural state of man after the fall. That is why Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit-without the partnership of man. He came into the world free from sin.

But why did He come? He did not come just to work miracles: to heal the sick, raise the dead, feed the hungry, etc. No; these were the by-products of His coming. He came to save His people from their sins. When sin is dealt with, all the tentacles of sin: sickness, disease, and death, are also dealt with. That is why the only way to heaven is through accepting Him into your life.

There is no other cure for sin. No matter how you try, once you are born of a woman and conceived through the coming together of a man and a woman, you are a sinner. And nothing except the blood of Jesus can cleanse you. The blood of bulls and goats covers sin temporarily, so such sacrifices had to be repeated again and again. But when Jesus came, He paid the price once and for all. His blood still remains potent to date.

Today, as we celebrate His birth, let it not end as a ritual. Celebrate Him by fully surrendering to Him. Let people see Him through you so that His name may be glorified. Merry Christmas.
