FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Text: Galatians 5:13-26:
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit brings about the fruit of the Spirit. This is a process whereby the Christian begins to manifest some conducts that are pure, righteous and perfect before God and men. The Christian begins to have intimate relationship with the HolySpirit. This fruit is not visible but spiritual.
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Meekness: not easily provoked, not revenging. –
2 Timothy 2:25:
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
Love: divine affection for others.-
1 John 4:16:
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him
Peace: this is peace of God in your heart. –
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Joy: this is gladness that is based on Christ and it is not moved by circumstances.
The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
Longsuffering or patience: this can be called endurance forbearance or faithfulness.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
Faith: this is trusting God at all times.
But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Temperance: moderation (having self-control).
1 Corinthians 9:25
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
Gentleness: cool temper and kindness.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Goodness: full of good works.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
Everyone baptised in the Holy Spirit is expected to bear the fruit of the Spirit, You must be dead to the flesh for this fruit to manifest in your life,
