Philippians 3: 12-15:
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
Life is full of battles, contests and struggles. A champion or winner is the one who wins an opponent in a contest. It is not easy to be a champion as it requires great effort but to sustain being a champion is even more challenging. After making several costly sacrifices to become a champion, more daily sacrifices will be required of you to remain a champion.
To remain a champion, there are certain activities that must be sustained, such as fervent and ceaseless prayers and watching, fasting often, self-denial, regular study of God’s word, evangelism etc. Do everything possible to refuse compromise to sin. Avoid pride that can make God to fight you and turn you into an ex-champion like the devil.
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
“Pray without ceasing.”
2 Cor. 11:27
“In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness”
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you”,
“Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;”
1 Peter. 5:5-6
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?”
It is better to pay the price to remain a champion than to face the horrors of being an ex-champion. –
“But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.”.
Samson lost God’s presence, his sight and freedom. He became a local prisoner and a laughing stock to those he once terrorised. Other pains of an ex-champion are loneliness and poverty.
Are you a divine champion? What are you doing to remain so? Are you an ex-champion? Come back to God in repentance, restitution, humility and total obedience. it is possible that God will reconsider using you again.
