“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
Many of us think that it’s normal to feel worried. In fact, if we have nothing to worry about, we start looking for things to worry about. We think that, if we worry, we’re more responsible. If we’re in a constant state of worry, then we’re not naive, but realists. We’re looking out for our own benefits, making sure that nothing bad happens.
Sometimes we may even think, “If I stop worrying, I leave myself open to being injured, or violated, or taken advantage of somehow. So, I have to worry constantly.” However, that is not the life that God, who loves us, wants us to have.Psalms_23: 1-3: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Worrying is especially harmful and contagious when worried people get in a room of happy people that are enjoying life. Unless the worrier can get everyone in that room to worry, as well, they feel something is wrong. Eventually, others start to worry and ultimately everybody is poisoned.
Please don’t be this person. Jesus has the audacity to tell us not to worry. Don’t worry about a thing. He has the boldness to say that you live in a reality, if you live with him surrounded by his love, where you ought not to worry about anything in the whole world.
Dear Lord, whenever I start to worry, I’m going to remember that I live with You in the Kingdom of God where there is no reason whatsoever for worry. Thank You for caring for my every need. Amen.
